David Hecht was wondering why is it that God had these wonderful personal relationships with Abraham, Moses and the forefathers but that he himself did not have such a personal relationship with God? This is the story of how a Jewish man seeks relationship with his God:
If we want a personal relationship with God, Jesus is the only way:
John 14:6 King James Version (KJV)
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus is the way because he demonstrates what it means to be an obedient servant:
Philippians 2:5-8 King James Version (KJV)
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
The way to God is to humble ourselves and to be obedient even unto death. It is to be lowly and to fear God:
Psalm 103:13-16 King James Version (KJV)
13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
If we try to demand answers from the Lord and to challenge him, he will not answer us. Cry out to him with a humble heart and we shall find the truth. And he will choose you and you will be his disciple.
